Spring Checking Clinic

The Prospects Hockey Academy checking clinic is a valuable opportunity for players to learn and refine their checking skills in a controlled and safe environment. The clinic typically begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of checking, we will have an informational video with the players that coaches will review prior to the first on ice session emphasizing the importance of timing, angles, and body positioning. Participants are taught the difference between body and stick checks, focusing on legal techniques that prioritize safety and respect for opponents. Instructors often use drills to practice balance and agility, which are crucial for executing effective checks. As the clinic progresses, players engage in partner exercises to simulate real-game scenarios, learning how to anticipate and absorb contact while maintaining control of the puck. Coaches continuously emphasize the importance of fair play and sportsmanship throughout the session. The goal of the clinic is not only to improve checking skills but also to instill a greater understanding of the game’s physical aspects while ensuring players are confident and prepared to use checking effectively in competitive play.

We will have two groups on every clinic night to ensure player safety by placing the players in groups associated with their skill level. We will have a maximum of 25 players in each group to create the best possible learning experience for the players. All the sessions will be taught by some of the most qualified coaches in the area.
